Staff training programme for PU College and College was organized by Bethany educational society, Mangalore Province on 26th of May 2014.It was an opportunity to involve actively themselves in the workshop for new learning. Sr M Christella BS, Asst Provincial Superior/Province Education Coordinator welcomed the gathering. In her Keynote address Provincial Superior/ Corporate Manager emphasized that sharpening the scale is an essential thing in order to have a perfect masterpiece of anything and hence in the teaching profession as well we teachers should sharpen our scales to bring out the best in ourselves. She shared the view point that knowledge is the only resource that increases the more we share. Hence we should share whatever knowledge we have. Ms Zakeera from St Raymond’s College was the MC for the day.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 Dr. Anjali Ganesh, professor from St Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor was the resource person for the morning session. Dr Anjali Ganesh specified that today it is teaching- learning process, where in we teach our students and there is also scope for new learning.  Qualities of an effective teacher were listed out to the participants. They being, asking open ended questions, conducted games and activities to enhance learning, the current need to understand the learning style of the students. She further added that there is a need to reinforce our students with positive words. Group discussions in the classroom will enhance the interest in the students which will help them in overall development. Mrs Anjali Ganesh concluded the session with a graph showing the scale of importance in a education system, wherein she said that communication with parents, treating all students equally, making ourselves available to the students, matching different learning skills with different emotions and finally subject expertise all are very essential for the overall development.  
           
In the afternoon session Sr Esuria BS, the Resource Person, addressed the teachers and made them aware of the vision, mission and goal of the Bethany Educational Institutions. She specified on the core values of the institution and said that that a teacher should be compassionate and value oriented. Collaboration and teamwork would help the institution gain excellence. Every teacher should adhere to respect for life, nature, cultures, religion and nation. Sr concluded the session by making a profile of a Bethany teacher which included characteristics like God experienced, compassionate, value oriented, appropriately educated, intellectually curious, loyal, self disciplined, role model, collaborative civic sense, patriotic, socially and politically conscious.
