The Bethany Educational Society, Mangaluru Province had organized a Science Model Competition to the students of Primary and High School under Bethany Educational Society (R) Mangaluru Province on 7th November 2016. 140 students of 28 Schools participated in the competition. Rev Sr Shalet D Souza BS the Asst Novice Directress of Rosa Mystica Novitiate presided over the function. In her presidential speech, she said, ‘Scientific temper is a way of life – an individual and social process of thinking and acting which uses a scientific method, which may include questioning, observing physical reality etc. She appreciated the students for their research ideas and the way it was developed.

Mr John Valder the Associate Professor and H O D of Electricals and Electronics Department of P A Engineering College, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the science model competition by sending a Rocket which works according to Newton’s third law. While appreciating the venture of the Bethany Sisters, he applauded the students who presented the models in a creative manner, innovative ideas, and utility of the project and the impact of the research study. The learning of science should help us to contribute our share for the welfare of the society.

Sr Mariola BS, the Province Councillor and the Coordinator for Education of Mangalore Province was the convenor of the science model competition. In her welcome address, she highlighted the features of the millennial children in this digital era.

The far sighted vision for the all-round growth of the students made this event a successful one. All the students of BES schools participated in the competition and the students were awarded in four categories namely primary and high school. Prakash, Likitha and Geetha S were the evaluators of the competition who focused on the Research idea, model design, presentation of the model, usefulness of the Project and overall impression of the model.

Students were awarded with a certificate of participation and the winners with a certificate of award with cash prize. Indeed a wonderful day of learning. Two of the participants expressed their gratitude to the Bethany Educational Society for the unique platform created to exhibit their scientific ideas and the opportunity to use their potentials to excel and explore in the service of humanity. Mr Vasu Dev from Holy Family High School, Bajpe compeered the programme. Mrs Jolly From Madeleine High School Mulki acknowledged the role of everyone who contributed to the rare event of this academic year and expressed gratitude to Bethany Educational Society (R) Mangalore and the Corporate Manager Rev Sr Cicilia Mendonca in her absentia. Indeed it was a great day of learning and innovation. This day coincided with the birthday of great Nobel Prize winners Madam Mary Curie and Sir C V Raman.
