Madeleine Institutions - Units of the Bethany Educational Society ® Mangalore, together with Labour Department D.K, Mulki Town Panchayat, like-Minded Organizations and People of Goodwill conducted an awareness programme to the Construction Workers on Sunday 29th November 2020 at 11.00am at the community Hall (Samudaya Bhavan) of K S Rao Nagar Lingappiyyakadu Karnad Mulki.

Rev Sr Anna Maria BS, Provincial Councillor & Coordinator for Social Action, Mangalore Province presided over the function. The prgramme was symbolically lunched by building the bricks as an image of building the life of the construction workers. She asserted the construction workers to claim their rights and avail the benefits under Karnataka builders and other workers Welfare Board. Rev Fr Sylverster DCosta, Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church, Mulki implored God’s divine presence upon the participants and expressed that this venture accompanies the construction workers to obtain welfare schemes.

Mrs .Wilma Elizabath Tauro, Labour Officer, Labour Department D.K in her awareness speech, brought into light the hidden treasures of the legislation of the Government of India on ‘Building and other construction workers (regulations of employment and conditions of services) Act 1996. She also explained in length the welfare schemes of Karnataka building and other construction workers welfare board 2006.

The chief guests of the day namely, Mr Ibrahim –Secretary Information & Service centre Karnad, Rtn PHF Ashok Kumar Shetty – President, Rotary club Mulki, Mr Joel Herald D Souza, Civil Contractor, ACMP Ex Vice president and Lion MJF Prathibha Hebbar – President, Lions club Mulki were present and assured support for the cause of the construction workers. Sr Nandita BS the Superior of Madeleine Bethany Institutions welcomed the gathering. Many issues of the construction workers were discussed with the Labour officer. Around 85 construction workers presented their documents for registration. A good number of construction workers participated in the programme. The Heads of Madeleine Institutions together with their staff organized the programme in collaboration with Labour Department, Mangalore DK, Mulki Town panchayat, Rotary, Lions, Information & service centre. Mr Vishanth Shetty compered the programme and Mr Abhishek proposed vote of thanks. Invocation was done by the teaching faculty of Madeleine Institutions.
